The Habitat Metamorphosis

The Habitat Metamorphosis is an adaptable house capable of responding to seasonal environmental conditions. It behaves differently in summer than in winter, which is already visible from the outside. Its residents control its natural processes: on hot days, it opens itself to the city and extends its roller blinds. In doing so, it protects its thick outer skin from the sun. Until the afternoon, the rooms can draw on the coolness stored in the building’s components overnight. When it becomes too warm, the Wohnmetamorphose releases warm, stale air from its interior through its chimney, allowing it to escape upwards into the open air.

In winter, it enters a rigid hibernation and closes all its openings. Its ceilings and façade skin store solar heat, providing reserves for its rooms at night. The living concept is based on through-connected living spaces that link the urban environment with the climate-regulating patio. In this way, all 48 apartments benefit from its stack effect.
